That is exactly what I do, I cannot stand Windows 10's atrocious sound effects (especially errors and notifications).

There should be a ReadMe that comes with the download that'll explain how to do it.

Can You Make Windows 95 Sound Scheme For Windows 7?
ReplyYes and no. Windows 8/10 did away with the log in/out and shutdown sounds (and probably others I'm forgetting) played in previous Windows versions.
You can still install the sound scheme, but you won't be hearing all the classic sounds.

Can you possibly send me a ZIP file with all the sounds from the Sound Scheme into a note? I am trying to make a Longhorn theme for Vista and Windows 7. I will also give credit where it's needed.
ReplyDownload link is on the right in case you missed it. No need to credit me -- these files came from a theme pack built by someone else. All I did was extract the sound files and create a registry file for just the sound scheme.
ReplyWhat do you mean? Nothing else needs to be done. The files are ready to be used.

Hey, I have been tweaking the sound themes, could u help me how to make the .inf file for installing the sound theme. Love it if u could help me out may be with a template, your wish.
ReplyI wonder why they dumped these in favor of the current Windows Vista/Windows 7 sounds.
ReplyMicrosoft didn't use them in the first place, contrary to what everyone has been led to believe. I don't think they would create an entire sound scheme and not use it in the final; that would be a waste of the composer's efforts.
Replyit sounds like windows vista beta edition. wait code name longhorn is vista beta D
ReplyDid you officially make this? Like put these fake sounds and put it to the public to trick people into thinking they're real?
ReplyThese are official Microsoft sounds, I remember when I had vista beta on my PC, it had these sounds on it.

ReplyThey're not official. Your memory's probably playing tricks on you. All builds of Longhorn and Vista Beta have been found to use XP sounds (and eventually a few Vista sounds). Articles written about Vista back in the day also mention nothing about these sounds.

Windows Longhorn was the pre-release codename for Windows Vista and was the successor to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (built from NT 5.2 codebase). Development on the OS started in May 2001 and went through two unique development cycles separated by a development reset in 2004. The reset occurred as Microsoft's development staff had lost focus on the project as a whole and what was required to be done in order to bring it to market. Features were being written into the OS at an alarming rate with a significant lack of QA or vision of true requirement. This combined with Microsoft's trustworthy computing initiatives caused the reset.
Several features of Longhorn planned that were actually shipped include the glass replicating Aero theme (which followed the Slate and Jade themes from earlier builds), along with the Windows Sidebar - although this was shipped as a standalone utility where as most builds (at least in pre-reset) shipped this as part of explorer.exe. Numerous improvements to the Windows Explorer, along with an updated Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media Player 11, instant search, new 3-d games and other items made it into the final version of Windows Vista.

Windows Longhorn existed as a continuation of the Windows 2003 codebase although after build 4094 development was reset; restarted from scratch as the original Longhorn builds were growing in complication (described as 'a mess') and Microsoft introduced a new focus on security. These are the pre-reset builds. Vx heavens virus collection download.
